Subaltern Voices | Migration Politicized
The images featured in this series are a snapshot of photographs taken by me, the author, during a research trip to Greece in 2024. I am currently building an archive, and this is the first step. Each image and theme will be discussed in detail in the next posts. In my research, wanted to see how migration is politicized through graffiti in Athens and Thessaloniki, and if this subaltern practice offers counter-discourses to the mainstream nationalism and xenophobia that has proliferated into Greek society. What I found were themes of solidarity, resistance, and a deep expression of the abolition of borders. I am building an ongoing archive of graffiti related to migration in Greece, a country that sits at the crossroads between three continents and is responsible for upholding the border regime through violent pushbacks and ill treatment of migrants. I hope this series sheds light on the support that exists for migrants throughout Greece, and the resistance to the illegal measures that are implemented daily. I do not take authorship over the content that I have photographed, but the original photographs have all been taken by the author.
